Wifferoo collective's BIO & PLAYLISTS

Listen to our show every

Wednesday 6pm - 8pm

What do you play?

Multi genre

What's your musical origin story?

"When we started dating each other back in 1982 and were still young and carefree, we spent a lot of our weekends going to musical venues in the East End of London and to various concerts supporting our favourite artists.  As we’ve grown together, so have our musical tastes but our first love will always be soul music – anything from the seventies and eighties really. Jump to the nineties and some great R&B and club music was added then house and trance.

Roll onto March 2021 while working Paul heard one of his clients, MartBee, playing some banging techno music in his garage.  They got chatting and Mart told him he was on a local radio station, Blitz Kids Radio, and after many visits to the studio later and lots of support from the team, Paul decided to purchase some decks.  Seeing how much fun he was having learning, I (Yvonne) wanted to join him in this new fun hobby too!  We had lots of guidance from our friends at the studio and also started doing online courses before getting the opportunity to stream with DJ friends with our own weekly show every Wednesday firstly playing just soul and R&B before moving onto house music."

What's your favorite thing about being a DJ?

"The excitement you get when playing a set together and bouncing off each other is amazing, but the best feeling in the world is when you play a tune and your listener tells you ‘Oh, I love this track’ or ‘Oh, I haven’t heard this for ages’."

What's your go-to track to get the party started?

"For both of us it’s got to be Luther Vandross and Never Too Much."

Share a memorable DJing moment or gig experience.

"When first starting out, Paul being asked to do his first live show by sharing a Christmas Special Set at Blitz Kids Radio with the late Tall Paul B.  Such a true gentleman and an honour for him to share his set with Paul not really knowing if he would be good enough but putting all his trust in him. We both will never forget that. RIP Tall Paul B" x

What's your favorite genre to spin, and why?

"We call our show Wonky Wednesday as we don’t have a particular favourite genre to spin as it changes from week to week so you’ll find that we play soul/R&B in our first hour and then ramp it up in the second hour playing funky house, tech house, progressive house and house house!"

If you could collaborate with any artist (living or dead), who would it be?

"As our musical tastes are so varied and being relatively new to the DJing scene, there is no one particular artist, however, being on the same line up as some of the best would be an amazing learning curve."

What's your secret weapon track that always gets a great response?

"It’s got to be Insomnia by Faithless - just those first few bars give you goosepimples."

What's one piece of advice you'd give to aspiring DJs?

"No matter how good you are, there is always room to learn and grow.  Always enjoy the moment and above all, stay humble."
