As a kid, I tried playing every instrument from the piano, violin, guitar, recorder, and saxophone. Although I didn't stick with them, music has always been a huge part of my life, and I got absolutely hooked on mixing when I played on my friend's FLX4 for the first time last year. This year, I have also started to learn music production, with a goal to release my first song by April 2026.
How playing the music I love connects me with people, and how I can express myself through my track selection.
Depends on the party! Lately I've been doing a lot of sunset scenes, and people go crazy for hits like "You and Me" (Rivo) or "I Adore You" (Hugel). But for high energy vibes, I'll bust out a classic track like "Don't You Worry Child" (Swedish House Mafia) or go with a remix of a pop song.
The first time I played a live gig was for a group of friends at a BBQ, and even surrounded by friends I was crazy nervous (especially because some of my other friends are very experienced DJs). And despite the hiccups along the way, everyone was vibing so much to the music, and afterwards wanted to talk to me about the set/how I was learning, etc. It was such a cool experience!
House - I really love the range of energy levels you can get with it, and I personally enjoy long mixes/transitions which come more naturally to house music for me.
For fun - I'd go for Fall Out Boy (I've been leaning back into pop punk a lot lately). For learning - Benny Blanco, Diplo, KSHMR... the list is super long to be honest, as I have a lot to learn in the music production space and have a lot of respect for so many!
For super hype vibes - One More Time (Daft Punk).
For those of you considering - just start and dive in! And keep going, even when it gets hard. Finally, and most importantly, remember to have fun - we're in it for the love of the music, and it's important not to forget that.
